‘Bad Company’ the Tune, New Version

The 5FDP guys, and the original.

Quick story: I know a guy, good guy, in his 20s, did a tour in Iraq, National Guard, infantry, fought in most of the big battles, saw a lot of bad stuff, put a lot of notches on his gun.

This isn't the guy I'm talking about, but is Crew Chief Sgt. Fred Oser, A. Company 2-25, Combat Aviation Brigade, with two 240bravos. (Gregory Giesky photo, click to see it bigger.)

Came back deaf in one ear after an IED smacked his Humvee and took out a good buddy of his. One of his top ribs is bent just from carrying around a 240 bravo (M240B) for a year. (The M240B is used in helicopters too, and weighs almost 30 pounds if I Googled right.)

Lucky for him that’s about all he came back with – physically. He and his buddies have to fight off the bad stuff every day just to keep going. And judging from his stories, we here in paradise literally have NO IDEA what our guys and gals in uniform are going through every day “over there.”

Anyhow, back to music: This guy’s favorite band is Five Finger Death Punch, whose tuneage sounds about how you’d expect it to. In other words, normally 5FDP wouldn’t see the light of day on WoodyTone. (Side note: The guit-players in the band do not like active pickups – great!)

But then I heard the cover of the band’s version of “Bad Company,” and was like: That’s pretty good! Definitely metal, but respectful, not over the top. Then I found the official 5FDP vid of the tune on YouTube, and it just fit so well with the above story. Pretty sure you can see that from the vid, but if not please refrain from the “what the heck are you writing about this stuff for” emails!

Original Version

Just in case that’s not enough Bad Company for you, here’s the original version with the original band, live. This begs the eternal question: Do you really need anything but a Les Paul and a Marshall – I mean an Ampeg V4?

Yikes. They sound like Nickelback with hot rodded guitar rigs.
